Butler Newall CNC 3000 retrofit

An Australian company had a requirement to expand their grinding capacity beyond conventional grinding and into large CNC cylindrical grinding. The machine was required for Oil field stabilizer grinding after the hard casing welding process.

The machine was retrofitted in Halifax and then re-commissioned in Australia.

The Siemens 802Dsl and Sinamics system was chosen due to its ease of use and standard inbuilt cylindrical grinding cycles including;

  • Plunge Grinding
  • Taper Grinding
  • Dressing
  • Longitudinal Surface Grinding
  • Shoulder Grinding
  • and many more

The project included;

  • Complete new electrical panel
  • New Siemens Sinamics Servos and Drives
  • Re-Engineering of the drive trains for the new motors
  • Drive based Safety (Safety integrated)
  • New sliding operator Pendant
  • Compact Pendant design
  • Complete re-wire
  • Efficient Electrical panel design
  • Plug and Socket connected Main Electrical Panel for ease of Shipping and installation
  • Commissioning of the Grinding cycles
  • Operator Training

This project exemplified the Seymour E-SHOP philosophy utilizing proven concepts from milling and turning designs.
